We want to end the barrier to accessing Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

At Brave Ground, we believe financial hardship, transportation challenges, stigma, bias, and other barriers should never prevent individuals and families from accessing quality mental health care. We envision a community where everyone has equitable access to intentional, evidence-based, ethical therapeutic services that harness the healing power of horses, nature, and authentic human connection.

"Horses do not ask us to be perfect. They ask us to be present. In that space, healing begins."

Pricing & Insurance

Insurance

Brave Ground accepts the following insurance:

  • Highmark

  • Capital

  • Aetna

Because services are provided by licensed mental health professionals, many clients may be able to utilize their behavioral health benefits for equine-assisted psychotherapy. Coverage varies by plan, and clients are encouraged to verify their benefits prior to beginning services.

All clients are required to complete an initial equine orientation and safety session before participating in services. Because this session is focused on safety and education rather than clinical treatment, it cannot be billed to insurance and is the responsibility of the client.

While horses may be incorporated into the therapeutic process, insurance only covers medically necessary psychotherapy services. Insurance does not cover recreational activities, horsemanship instruction, riding lessons, or simply spending time with the horses.

To bill insurance, sessions must be provided by a licensed mental health professional, tied to a mental health diagnosis and treatment plan, and include documented therapeutic interventions that support treatment goals.

Private Pay

$125

Brave Ground welcomes clients who prefer to pay out of pocket or who do not wish to utilize insurance benefits. Private-pay services provide increased flexibility and privacy while still receiving high-quality, clinically guided care.

Because our services are psychotherapy services provided by licensed mental health professionals, the same clinical requirements apply regardless of payment method. Clients will participate in an assessment process, receive a treatment plan, and engage in therapeutic services designed to support identified treatment goals.

We accept cash, credit card, and most HSA/FSA benefits for eligible services. Please contact our team for current private-pay rates and additional information.

Scholarship Fund

Session Cost Covered In Full

At Brave Ground, we believe that financial circumstances should never be the reason someone is unable to access quality mental health care. Unfortunately, the cost of treatment, lack of insurance coverage, high deductibles, and other financial barriers can prevent individuals and families from receiving the support they need.

The Brave Ground Scholarship Fund was created to help bridge that gap. Through the generosity of donors and community partners, scholarship assistance may be available for individuals and families who demonstrate financial need.

Our goal is simple: to ensure that those seeking healing, growth, and support have the opportunity to access services regardless of their financial situation. Scholarship awards are based on financial need and available funding.

To apply for the scholarship fund, please send an email to bravegroundequine@gmail.com, describing why you are seeking services at Brave Ground, how you believe you would benefit from the program, and the financial circumstances that make accessing services difficult at this time.

You may also include any additional information you feel would be helpful for our team to consider.

Scholarship requests are reviewed on an individual basis and are awarded based on demonstrated financial need and available funding.
